Crayola’s Rereleased Colors & the Power of Nostalgia in Art

As someone who often finds herself on niche corners of the internet and who’s easily excitable about art, I was thrilled to see Crayola rereleased eight retired colors. This news sparks nostalgia for those of us who spent their childhoods, and maybe even adulthoods, creating masterpieces from boxes of Crayons.

For the first time in 122 years, Crayola will sell limited-edition packs of these rereleased crayons.

The revived colors include Violet Blue, Raw Umber, Lemon Yellow, and Orange Red, retired in 1990; Magic Mint, Blizzard Blue, and Mulberry, retired in 2003; and Dandelion, retired in 2017.

“As a first in the history of Crayola, we could not be more excited to bring back this beloved Limited Edition color collection."

- Victoria Lazan, Crayola CMO

Crayola’s chief marketing officer, Victoria Lazano, says, “We look forward to seeing the Limited Edition colored inspire even more creative moments for our fans.”

So, thinking about the smell of a box of Crayola crayons, I turned to our ArtCloud customers to curate a digital collection of artworks featuring these fan-favorite colors.

Glory Day Loflin | Griddle Valentine Quilt II
David Burdeny | Red Beacon Japan (/5)
Carson Elliott | Across the Sand
Elizabeth Lide | Fabriano
R. Sawan White | I loved your sprinkler days

While combing through the collections of ArtCloud galleries and artists, the vibrant display of colors reminded me of how ArtCloud empowers the art world to creatively market and promote collections. The process of curating this collection of Crayola-like artworks proved how ArtCloud makes it easy to find and purchase artworks. I can't decide which rereleased color or artwork I like best.

What if I just got them all?
